Bau & Bergbau IoT: Netze und -30degC

SIMs versagen -10degC. Minen -35degC. Multi-Operator.

What temperature rating does an IoT SIM need for a mining site?

Industrial-grade (-40°C to +85°C) at minimum. Commercial-grade SIMs (0°C to +60°C) begin developing intermittent contact failures below -10°C due to plastic substrate warping. For engine compartment or extreme environments, automotive-grade (-40°C to +105°C) may be required. The SIM temperature spec should match the router's operating temperature spec —if the router is rated to -40°C, the SIM must match.

Why does a mining site need multiple SIMs from different carriers?

Mining and construction sites often span terrain where no single carrier has complete coverage —the pit floor, haul road, and admin office may each be covered by a different MNO. Multi-carrier bonding (2-4 modems, each with a different carrier's SIM) creates a single logical connection that survives individual carrier dropouts. A multi-IMSI SIM can simplify this to one physical card with multiple profiles, but cannot bond across carriers simultaneously —separate modems are required for true bonding.

How fast can IoT connectivity be deployed at a new construction site?

With pre-provisioned SIMs and zero-touch router provisioning, connectivity can be operational within hours of equipment arrival. The SIMs must be activated and tested before shipping —on-site activation is not viable when the site has no existing connectivity. SGP.32 eSIM with bootstrap profiles enables the router to receive the correct operational profile over whatever network is available on first power-up.
